Reality Bites

Well, its been a week of facing facts.

Fact Number One: We are not going to be in the new house before school starts. I don’t think its possible. That is really disappointing, though not that surprising. I talked to the builder today and he told me he hoped to get us in before CHRISTMAS!!! Boo hoo is all I have to say about that.

Fact Number Two: Sara and I cannot possibly ever get this house, my mom’s and Nancy’s ready to sell on our own. So I hired two very nice ladies to help us. They are going to come over next week and help us start to get rid of George’s things (most of them, anyway) and declutter and clean the house for sale. I feel very relieved and extremely anxious about this. It’s going to be hard to really dive in, but we have to and I’m very glad to have help.

Fact Number Three: We need to get out of our houses by May to have the best chance of selling them quickly. This means I may have to take Lily out of school and hire someone to homeschool her so she can graduate from second grade. This would be in April. I’m on the fence about this, but I don’t think I can stay in the house until June 15th, when her school lets out. So I’m considering it… I’m so uncertain about whether its a good idea. We would then put the houses on the market and move to Asheville with my parents and Nancy in Nancy’s future house, and Lily, Sara and I at Shirley’s. It’s gonna be a long summer!

Fact Number Four: I’m exhausted. No matter what time I go to bed I get up tired. I don’t see this letting up any time soon.

Mom and Dad's house, mountain view.

Got this picture from the architect of my parent’s house design. I love the peaked roof! The double doors in the middle will open onto a balcony or deck. That sidewalk kind of thing on the side will connect to my house. There will be (if I can afford it!) a deck between our houses. I really do like the design. I just wish this was a photo and not a drawing.

I would show the floorplan but I don’t know how to make a picture of a pdf.

I’m going to Asheville February 6th to pick out appliances, doors, windows, flooring etc. and take Shirley home. I hope my mom can come with me. Then back to Reading to finish decluttering and cleaning the houses (3!) for sale and to finish up the business of getting the heck out of Dodge.

I’m hoping I can continue to face reality, but I gotta say, I’d really like to climb in bed, pull the covers up and pretend I don’t hear the phone ringing.

Thanksgiving seems very, very far away…

Hi, Lisa. You are tackling enormous tasks–no wonder you are tuckered out…remember my CHUNK IT OUT method?
This was in my inbox yestiddy.
My dad is the person who let me in on the chunk it out approach, but “chunk it out” IS mine—-LOL.
Dad was a real Zen man + back then we didn’t even know from Zen…

day by day, step by step… you’re on your way! The house looks beautiful and when it’s done, will be even more than you imagined! Follow your mothering instincts about Lily’s schooling, and ask the teacher what is best so you can make the best choice. GOOD LUCK!

Lisa! You’re doing all of the right things – moving ahead – getting help to get things done! And as for Fact number 3 – I say YES – get the homeschooling! By getting out of your house in May and getting someone to help her finishing 2nd grade, you let her life focus on Asheville, her future and beginning third grade in her new school. What a gift to her that is! You rock Lisa! Now go take a nap. That was a lot of work!

Lisa,
A friend of mine moved and he and his wife have triplets. He moved his ENT Practice from one state to another and the children were 10 years old at the time. They found an accredited online based school that they had the kids do. I just saw him about 4 months ago and asked him what the kids were doing, the girls are back in a regular school but the boy is still home-schooling. The girls are social and wanted to go back to school, Andre’ not so much and is very advanced and wanted to continue home-schooling, all on the internet. Does Lily use the internet and can someone help her for a couple of hours a day?

Best of luck on the packing and moving.
Sharon
